Tatcha - Japanese Beauty Secrets, Skincare Ritual & Beauty Products

After throwing away all of my old, chemical-filled face washes, toners and moisturizers, I realized I needed to find replacements. And fast. Luckily for me, there are a lot of options out there!

Tatcha is different. It's not like any other cleansing system I've used before. I can now say that I understand the flawless beauty of the Geisha women.

"TATCHA’s formulas pay homage to the icon of Eastern beauty and our own storied heritage. Now the secrets of the geisha live on through a proprietary process involving the most precious green teas, Okinawa red algae, rice bran and other time-tested ingredients."
The reason I had looked into Tatcha at all was because of the ingredient list. Remember; I have a chemical-free criteria for my products now. So I'm super selective and I read all labels thoroughly. When I saw Tatcha's list, it became more evident that I needed to try this regiment.

Click here to go directly to their website.

Green Tea Complete DNA Extract—extremely rich in EGCG, 14 times more potent than traditional green tea extracts and 5 times more potent than Vitamin C in protecting against UV-induced oxidative damage, which is a leading contributor to premature skin aging.
Okinawa Red Algae Extract—a vital source of Beterhelin, a natural polysaccharide proven to enhance the skin’s barrier function for long lasting moisture retention and texture improvement.
Japanese Rice Bran Extract—prized for centuries as a rich source of inositol, a multitasking active which is at once a powerful anti-oxidant and nourishing moisturizer.

The above ingredients are all natural, and are not processed to a point of creating nasty by-products. They're just naturally simple, pure.

 A special delivery, indeed!

I received the sampler size ritual kit; which includes 6 trial-sized essentials + beauty papers:
- PURE Camellia One Step Cleansing Oil - 15ml | 0.5oz
- POLISHED Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder - 3 x 1g packets
- POLISHED Classic Rice Enzyme Powder - 3 x 1g packets
- POLISHED Deep Rice Enzyme Powder - 3 x 1g packets
- RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum - 15ml | 0.5oz
- SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream - 10ml | 0.3oz
+PETAL FRESH Original Japanese Beauty Papers - 1 full sized pack | 30 sheets
and a full size Radiant Deep Brightening Serum.
The "trial" size is an understatement, I see these as travel size goodies!

Also included was a booklet that explains the journey, the mission, and the ingredients (detailed explanations of the ingredients and what they're used for? Much appreciated!!) complimented by beautiful pictures all throughout.  There was also a separate sheet of paper that details The Ritual.

The Ritual is composed of 4 steps, detailing how much of each product to use and exactly how to use it.

Step 1: PURE - uses the Camellia Cleansing Oil on a dry face with dry hands. 1-2 pumps of the cleansing oil massaged onto a dry face, and rinsed away with warm water left my face looking *squeaky* clean! The best part? The Camellia cleansing oil will wipe off makeup, even waterproof makeup (remember, use this on dry skin).

Step 2: POLISHED - uses a gentle exfoliant made from Rice Enzyme Powders on a very wet face, with wet hands. The reason this step is applied with a wet face and hands is because the powder turns to a cream right in your palms as you mix it together before applying it. This was my absolute favorite part of The Ritual, my face had never felt so smooth before.
There are three types of rice enzyme powder.

Gentle - for sensitive skin; with licorice root extract, to help soothe skin
Classic - for normal skin; with pearl, nature's skin conditioner
Deep - for active skin; with dokudami; to help soothe skin and reduce the appearance of blemishes
(dokudami is a powerful, natural Eastern herb used in this regard for anti-aging. It has a lot of other healthful properties. I wasn't sure exactly what the ingredient was and I didn't want to share it without explaining it.)

Step 3: RADIANT - uses 1-2 pumps of the Deep Brightening Serum that can be used day and night for instant boosts of moisture and radiance. This serum will help lighten current age spots and work towards preventing future ones. *Tatcha recommends, for best results, avoid prolonged sun exposure, as UV rays are the leading contributor to hyperpigmentation*

Step 4: SUPPLE - A pearl sized amount of this Moisture Rich Silk Cream is all you need; apply day and night. The anti-aging cream provides long lasting moisture while it promotes the skin's natural hyaluronic acid synthesis. Since this cream absorbs quickly and is weightless, it doubles as a natural primer if you were to apply makeup afterwards.

The Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers were originally created by gold leaf artisans and discovered by Geisha in the 1800's for it's skin benefits. Each oil absorbing sheet is flecked with gold specs, is all natural and biodegradable. To use them, simply blot 1 piece of Aburatorigami paper on to the skin where there is excess oil; this doesn't disturb make up either. Use both sides of the sheet before discarding.

These four simple steps create the most gorgeous skin I've seen on myself in years. So much so, that I had to write to the company and let them know just how much I appreciate an all natural, pure line of products that my skin really responds well to. Well, the CEO of the company had responded, to personally...thank ME! Oh my, I was so flattered. She's a wonderful woman, who leads an incredibly admirable company.

*Disclaimer - these products were given to me free, for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own, honest feelings and I understand that yours may vary from mine.

One lucky reader will win the Sampler Set described above! Good luck! :)
